YESSS!! stands for Yearly Epic Summer Step and Swing.

There will be a ballromm bar in the 2026 event, we encourage responsible social drinking for all of our of age guests. Please bring a valid ID and always remember to tip your bartender.

Sky Harbor is going to be your biggest and most common, but Phoenix-Mesa Gateway is close as well.

We strongly suggest wearing shoes that are already broken in, so if you are thinking of getting a new pair, check out some of our sponsors NOW so you have time to break them in.  We suggest shoes that fit well, leather boots will be common so will dance shoes - both work great. The biggest suggestion we have is nothing with solid rubber bottoms.

We have had students suggest toms, dance shoes, walmart brand shoes with soft bottoms.

Sunscreen.  Swimsuit.  Sunglasses.  Extra shoes.  Charging packs for your phone.  Notebook if you want to take notes in class. Backpack to bring with you when you aren't in your room. Cash for bartender tips and water bottles/ect.

FAQ ABOUT competitions

You can find all the competitions for line dance here with links for stepsheets, demos, and breakdowns.

For 2026 we are encouraging competitors to enter at the level they feel most fits their dance level.

For Jack and Jills, competitors are judged individually for prelims and semi finals (and we understand that isn't a perfect solution but at this time that's one of the ways we are making the best of placements), after making it to finals partners are judged together.

If you are unsure of the level you'd assign yourself, or you want input or help, you can attendee any of the Competition Placements or Q&A sessions on the schedule (even without a full weekend or day pass).

Have feedback or thoughts on this? Or concerns, suggestions, or input? Please feel free to share that with us: by filling out this anonymous google form or by emailing us at info@yesssdanceconvention.com

Jack and Jill or J&J competitions is a “random partner” competition

This means you:

• Sign up by yourself (no partner needed!)

• Are rotated at various times throughout the competition (usually every song until finals)

•During prelim and semifinal rounds you are judged as a solo dancer

•For finals you’re judged as a partnership

•At this, and most events, lifts are not allowed in jack and jill competitions

Strictly dance competitions mean:

• You dance only with the dance partner you sign up and enter with.

•You’re judged as a team the entire time.

•Some of these competitions may allow lifts/aerials. (not at the beginner level)

Judges may not judge the level they are competing in (including for heats they are not in), but may enter at a higher level as appropriate.

Lifts are allowed in:

  • Strictly competitions* Intermediate, Advanced, and All Level

Lifts are not allowed in:

  • Jack and Jill competitions
  • Beginner Strictly
  • Any situation that your partner has not given you verbal permission to do lifts
  • Social settings on the main floor (there is a lift floor to practice on)

These are both divisions that include combinations of sanctioned dances and a bar dances.
Slotted Swing is WCS, bar coast, and any other bar variation that does not rotate and does one style timing.
Progressive is Two step, one step, and any other bar variations that progresses around the dance floor in a "race track" like visual. This is commonly done in Texas and surrounding states. This can include any progressive dance.
We don’t offer points or trained judge panels for sanctioned styles so it’s not practical for them to have its own competition. While bar dance styles grow and surveys indicate they should have their own division we will work towards creating it. Until then, freestyle divisions like this allow us to see dances judgable together based on dance and song structure.

Yes. If you are ONLY coming to compete you will still need to purchase a social dance pass.

2024 is adding CTST Points to the Two Step competitions, we are not doing any official WCS competitions.

You can find your 2025 and your 2026 scores as part of the National Country Swing Circuit.

Not for jack and jill competitions, for strictly you do sign up with your partner. If you are looking to meet. or connect with partners, you can check the facebook group.

No problem, we know not everyone can take the weekend off, if you are unable to join us for the day time workshops and convention you can still purchase stand alone tickets for just social dancing (or watching the competition).

There is a $20 cost per person to compete, but strictly partners will register and pay TOGETHER at a cost of $40 per couple.
